Champion Australia has today launched its second sustainable Re:Bound collection, Washed Black.
The collection is made using a minimum of 45% pre-consumer recycled cotton and features a range of men's, women's and genderless pieces.
Fronting the campaign is former Adelaide 36ers NBL player Obi Kyei – who left professional basketball to create his own sustainable fashion label Obiri – and model, DJ and sustainability advocate Amber.
Kyei creates pieces for Obiri using pre-existing garments, deadstock fabrics and vintage pieces to create new clothes, making him a perfect fit for Champion's Re:Bound campaign.
"I’ve always loved clothing, especially the ability to switch it up and wear something new every time," Kyei said.
"But for me now, it’s about how I can create that feeling of having something brand new, without draining on our resources to produce it.
"Every person, every industry, and every brand needs to start thinking sustainably.
"Champion is taking that big step," he said.
The recycled and vintage-inspired Re:Bound collection features signature styles in a brand new colour-way (black), as well as two new women’s styles and genderless basics that are durable, shrink resistant and made to last.
Speaking on the second collection, Champion ANZ said it wanted to showcase the connections between sustainable fashion and sport.
"Our ongoing commitment to ethical clothing production inspired us to provide a platform to support and showcase local champions of the circular fashion movement like Obi and Amber.
"As the official apparel partner of the NBL, we were particularly keen to partner with Obi for our second drop of Re:Bound to highlight the strong link between basketball, fashion and a sustainable future," the business said.
Amber praised the venture.
"We only have one earth and we have to take care of it.
"Reframing the way we navigate consumption is super important and it’s great to see a major streetwear brand like Champion taking sustainability seriously," she said.
Champion Re:Bound Washed Black is available from today on the Champion website and in select stores nationally.
