Bassike has announced that has been certified carbon neutral by Climate Active for its business operations in 2020-21.

The designer label has met the requirements of the Climate Active Carbon Neutral Standard for Organisations and is now certified as carbon neutral for its Australian business and retail operations.

The news follows the brand's presentation of carbon neutral runways at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week this year.

Bassike co-founder and director of supply chain and sustainability and G-10 list honouree Mary Lou Ryan said while the brand is proud of its achievement, it still has more to do.

"Earlier this year, we cemented our commitment to a more sustainable future by outlining a number of goals to actively support climate action.

"Achieving carbon neutrality as an organisation does not mean we are at the end of our journey.

"From here, we will work through this same measure, reduce and offset process annually to continue reducing our operational emissions, while also working towards expanding our measurement of scope three to include upstream emissions embodied in our supply chain," she said.

According to Australia's Climate Council, the global fashion industry releases 1.2 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year - more than the shipping and aviation industries' emissions combined.
