Cotton Australia records that China is currently the largest consumer of Australian grown cotton, buying out a colossal 68% of the market.

Indonesia, Thailand, South Korea, Bangladesh and Japan snap are also major export hotspots for the industry.

In terms of employment, Cotton Australia estimates that around 10,000 Australians are directly employed in the industry in a non-drought year and during record crop seasons, the total forecast value of cotton produce in Australia hits $3 billion.

At present there are over 1200 cotton farms across Australia with the vast majority in New South Wales and Queensland.

And how much cotton do we produce as a nation every year?

Enough to clothe 500 million people.

Cotton has emerged as one of the most lucrative industries in the Australian agricultural sector, representing between 30 to 60% of the gross value of total agricultural production in the regions it's grown.
