Anna Langdon is on track to follow in the footsteps of TAFE NSW Fashion Design Studio luminaries Akira Isogawa, Dion Lee, Alex Perry and Nicky Zimmermann.

The third year fashion design student took out top honours for the studio's eveningwear parade at Sydney's Strand Arcade yesterday evening.

Joining Langdon on the winners podium was Carlie Waterman, who was announced a runner up and Josh Bouman and Kaylene Milner, who tied for third place. Highly commended mentions also went out to Chloe Herald and Chris Baldwin.

Students were required to conceptualise the costumes of the Ballet Russes and Leon Bakst, moulding them with the cultures of the Middle East into a modern eveningwear piece.

The students were judged by five industry figures including Ragtrader editor Assia Benmedjdoub, The Australian fashion editor Damien Woolnough, Parlour X boutique owner Eva Galambos and designers Gary Bigeni and Karla Spetic.

Langdon's winning piece was inspired by the strong silhouettes of the Ballet Ballet Russes, with hand-made copper embellishments, technical shoulder and corset construction and a curved, netted headpiece.

TAFE NSW Fashion Design Studio head teacher Nicholas Huxley described Langdon as one of the hardest working students he has encountered.

"Nothing is impossible for Anna," he said. "She will experiment and research every possible angle to get something to work, whether it's the patternmaking creating those fine copper [embellishments]. Our third year students really raised the bar this year."
