American multinational tech company Amazon will invest over $7 million opening a new logistics site in Ravenhall, Victoria.

It will be the business’ fourth Victorian warehouse, and lifts its total count to 13 across all of Australia.

The new site, according to Amazon, will create more than 200 jobs once fully operational, alongside flexible earning opportunities with its delivery service Amazon Flex.

The key intention behind the new site is to enable faster delivery to customers in the surrounding region.

The 8,800 square metre site is currently under construction in Dexus’ Horizon 3023 estate, and will create a further 1,000 construction jobs until its completion - targeted for late 2025.

The new logistics site will be located opposite Amazon’s existing Ravenhall fulfilment centre, which is currently home to hundreds of thousands of the larger items available on its website, ranging from soft drink cartons and nappies to BBQs, outdoor furniture and gardening equipment.

Amazon also sells a range of fashion products from global brands such as Champion, Bonds and Calvin Klein.

“The Ravenhall logistics site enables us to grow our contribution to the local economy through the creation of jobs and flexible earning opportunities and we look forward to building on our strong relationship with the local community,” Amazon Australia director of operations Sandra McNeil said.

“We’re also excited about what this enhanced delivery experience will soon bring to our customers in and around Melbourne and Victoria.”

Amazon worked with Dexus to secure the strategic location for the delivery station close to its existing Ravenhall fulfilment centre which is close to the proposed Western Intermodal Freight Terminal.

Amazon’s logistics sites manage the ‘last mile’ of the order process. Packages are transported to the Ravenhall site from Amazon fulfilment centres and are then picked up by Amazon Flex delivery partners to be delivered directly to customers.
