Global retail platform AliExpress has hit the top spot as the most downloaded shopping app in Australia, according to Apple’s App Store.

The platform – which sells an array of goods including fashion and accessories – overtook Temu for the top spot. Klarna, Petbarn and Shopify’s Shop app round out the top five in order.

Shein sits at number six, followed by Woolworths’ Everyday Rewards, Amazon and the Woolworths shopping app.

The round-up is similar to Google’s Play Store, which shows that Temu is in the top spot, followed by AliExpress, Petbarn, Shein and Coles.

AliExpress is owned and managed by Alibaba Group.

According to AliExpress, the platforms rise on the Apple Store charts signals a major shift in consumer behaviour.

“The shift in shopping habits is clear,” AliExpress ANZ country manager Alfy Zhang said. “Australians are seeking smarter ways to shop, and AliExpress is delivering on that demand by providing budget-conscious options without compromising on quality.

“Our dedication to streamlining logistics, delivering cross-border orders in just 5-9 days and local metro orders in 1-3 days, along with exclusive in-app deals, has made us the top shopping destination for millions of Australians.”

The platform has reportedly expanded its offerings with a mix of local and international sellers. AliExpress also cited faster shipping options and personalised app-exclusive deals for its growth in the Australian market.

AliExpress provides Australian consumers with product categories such as home and gardening, toys and DIY, consumer electronics, tools, and automobile parts and accessories.

The latest news comes ahead of the platform’s birthday sale event called the 3.28 Mega Sale. The AliExpress app will include ‘Shake and Win’ prizes, a chance to win tickets to Bali, and major discounts and app-only offers.
