In an Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW) special, ragtrader.com.au asks key buyers about trade, trends and what's on their agenda. Next up is The Iconic senior buyer in women’s designer wear Lisa Bean, who reveals what its customers are searching for right now.

What are some of the Australian designer brands you currently stock and what are the best performing styles?

Australian designers play a key role in our brand assortment, with Alemais, Camilla & Marc, St Agni and Christopher Esber all performing very well across our portfolio. We’re seeing elevated statement items fly out the moment. Think sheer, conversational prints, and bold colours.

What designer collections or product categories are you looking forward to seeing at Australian Fashion Week?

The opening show from Alemais is at the top of my list. The evolution of each collection is amazing and I can’t wait to see how they bring the collabs to life through dramatic, but wearable styles.

Has the current macroeconomic climate changed how buyers approach sourcing brands?

We’re always trying to be at the forefront of our customers and the ever-changing demands and spending behaviours. This is just another pivot in our path to be able to tweak our assortment to ensure we are giving customers exactly what they need.

Looking more broadly at your portfolio of brands, where do you see the main areas of demand and popularity from consumers currently?

Our customer is looking for versatility at the moment. Brands that offer versatility, in an elevated way, are at the top of the wishlist. Something that they can feel great in, whether it be at the office, going to dinner, or anywhere in between.

What do you predict will be the next big fashion trend?

We've seen the impact of colour, with Bottega and Valentino, and we’ll continue to see this vibrant domination coming into the Resort season. The bolder, the better.
