Australian customers can now recycle any Uniqlo down items they own, as part of the retailer's new Re.Uniqlo garment recycling program.
The Down Recycling Project forms part of the retailer's 'Re.Uniqlo' mission - which pays homage to the virtues of REcycling, REusing and REducing.
"In the process, waste, carbon dioxide emissions, and resource consumption are reduced throughout product lifecycles," Uniqlo added in a statement.
"Through Re.Uniqlo, Uniqlo is uniting with customers in a drive to become a brand that is better for the environment and communities alike," the business said.
The initiative is also the first of Uniqlo's sustainability projects to turn collected garments into new clothes.
To celebrate the program, Uniqlo is encouraging Australians to return any Uniqlo down garment they own to their nearest store, to have the down and feathers be 100% recycled into new garments.
Aussies handing in used down garments will receive a $10 off voucher, which can be used on any Uniqlo down items from the main range until the end of June.
Meanwhile, the first range of recycled down jackets - made from 620,000 collected jackets - will hit selected Australian stores and the Uniqlo website in April.
The Down Recycling program is the latest step in Uniqlo's sustainability mission, which has also seen it recently appoint anime character green Doraemon as its global sustainability ambassador.
