eBay Australia has added three new luxury brands to its sneaker Authenticity Guarantee service, welcoming Gucci, Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton to the mix.
The new labels join 29 other brands including Yeezy, Jordans, Nike and Versace that are authenticated by Sneaker Con sneaker experts for eBay.
eBay Australia spokesperson Sophie Onikul said the service has proved popular with customers.
"We’ve seen healthy growth in the sneakers category on eBay.
"More than 1.5 million sneakers have been authenticated globally on eBay in just over a year, demonstrating just how popular this service has been.
"Sneakers are a billion-dollar industry in Australia and as more brands enter the market, including highly sought-after luxury designers, the demand from sneakerheads and sneaker flippers continues to grow," she said.
Each sneaker is authenticated using a strict process where various aspects of the shoe are inspected including logo placement, stitching, leather quality and even smell.
Genuine pairs are then shipped to the buyer with a Near Field Communication (NFC) tag containing an encrypted digital authentication certificate.
eBay's Authenticity Guarantee is available for new and pre-owned sneakers valued over $150.
