Online retail and auction giant GraysOutlet has secured a celebrity line stocked by department store David Jones at up to 60 per cent off the retail price, amid industry debate around parallel importing.
High-profile womenswear line Project D, created by celebrity Dannii Minogue and Tabitha Somerset-Webb, is currently available through GraysOutlet at up to 60 per cent off.
The collection of ten dresses includes eveningwear, cocktail and caftan options priced from $199 to $399. Statement pieces include the Calypso asymmetrical pleated detail maxi in dark blue and the Aphrodite sequin maxi fishtail dress at $399. Garments under $300 include the Electra plum lace dress, Athena sequin mini and Imagine hip peplum dress.
Grays Outlet corporate communications manager Therese Tarlinton confirmed the collection was sourced directly from the brand’s UK supplier, with not all styles available at David Jones or in the Australian market. The move comes as local debate around parallel imports intensifies, with the Australian arm of denim retailer G-Star losing its latest battle against a local discount chain in July.
G-Star claimed that Toast Sales infringed on its local trademark and copyright after importing the label’s product from offshore parties, however the case was unsuccessful in the Federal Court. Greg Norman’s Great White Shark brand and the Lonsdale Group however, were successful in similar court actions this year.
