FESTIVAL FEVER
ADELAIDE: The third annual Adelaide Fashion Festival has wrapped up for another year. Highlights of the nine-day event included the 2010 South Australian Emerging Designer Award, taken out by womenswear designer Jaimie Sortino for his eveningwear and cocktail creations. Established designers including George Gross, Harry Who, Liza Emanuele and Alexis George also showcased their summer collections, while student creations hit the catwalk as part of the TAFE SA Fashion Graduate Parade. The consumer event was coordinated this year by Adriana Palumbo with aims to increase fashion retail sales as well as promote Adelaide's fashion credentials.
DESIGNER ARREST
MELBOURNE: Two people have been charged with handling stolen goods after Victorian police uncovered $100,000 worth of designer clothing in a house in Melbourne's Sunshine North. The home raid was the culmination of a three-month operation. A 48-year-old man and 44-year-old woman from St Albans have been bailed to appear before the Sunshine Magistrates Court on April 11, 2011.
SUMMER FEET
NATIONAL: New US footwear brand Soludos is making a concentrated attack on the Australian market, targeting high end mixed label apparel stores. The espadrille
label for men and women will hit Australia for summer 2010 and is set to be stocked in 15 boutiques in December. Launch stockists include TuChuzy and The Corner Store in Sydney, Cactus Jam and Fat in Melbourne and Calexico in Brisbane. Founded in Los Angeles by Nick Brown, the brand offers one core collection each year, boosted frequently with new colours and prints. Priced from $33 to $36, sizes for women range from 36 to 41 and for men from 41 to 45.

MELBOURNE: Lamborghini has ventured from cars to apparel with the launch of its first Australian fashion boutique. Located in South Yarra, ‘Automobili Lamborghini Boutique’ will sit adjacent to the motor vehicle showroom. It will offer Italian-inspired fashion apparel for men and women, as well as leather accessories such as hats, shoes and wallets. It will also stock t-shirts and beach towels.
