NATIONAL: Womenswear retail chain Sportsgirl is heading back to the future.
In keeping with the trend for all things vintage, the brand has re-launched a range of its product - some dating back 30-plus years.
Dubbed 'Rewind', the collection includes '80s logo T-shirts, chambray shorts, duffle bags and beach towels as well as beachballs, cosmetics bags and knit shorts.
The range, released this Saturday, will be promoted by an extensive marketing campaign which will see striped and branded Kombi vams hit beaches and inner city "hot spots" along the east coast.
Sportsgirl buying manager Gavin Gage said the decision to relaunch the range had been driven by a desire to offer younger consumers a true "retrospective" of the brand's heritage.
"Sportsgirl is a brand our customer has grown up with and loves. A part of that journey for her would have been to have seen sportsgirl in the '80s. Maybe she was a little young to wear it then however now she can relive it."
The hardest part of reintroducing the collection had been editing the originals down, Gage said.
The range, available in sizes small to XXL, will retail for between $8 and $50.
