Wittner has revealed its first sustainable capsule collection, made from recycled plastic bottles and vegan-friendly materials.

Following the launch of the eco-shoe box in 2020, Wittner has unleashed the next phase in its sustainable journey.

According to recent studies, around 373 million plastic bottles end up as waste each year in Australia.

This has prompted Wittner to partner with a manufacturer that recycles that produces a Global Recycled Standard (GRS) textile made from discarded, recycled plastic bottles to create its new sustainable collection.

The range used GRS material, which is more than 80% PET (recycled bottles) and blended with elastane to offer stretch and allow the shoes to mould to the foot.

Wittner CEO Catherine Williamson said the brand is committed to innovation and diversifying its product mix.

"Leather is at the heart of Wittner and we really believe it can be sustainable.

"We’re an official member of the Leather Working Group to ensure that we’re meeting environmental standards throughout the supply chain.

"However, we understand that there are other wonderful materials out there and being able to recycle, reuse and most importantly, recreate, is central to our sustainability strategy and conserving the health of the planet."

Used plastic bottles are cleaned, crushed, dried and melted to produce a knitted textile material that is used to create each style in the new sustainable range.

Wittner designer Michelle Botha said the range is designed for everyday wear.

“We’ve created a range of shoes that prioritises convenience and comfort without neglecting style.

"The intent is for the designs to suit multiple occasions because we know that sustainability isn’t just about recycled materials, it’s about quality, longevity and being able to re-wear the same shoes over and over again."

The range is available in store and online at www.wittner.com.au from February 2021.

Prices will range from RRP $155.00 - $250.00 with each pair of sustainable shoes to be packaged in Wittner’s eco-shoe box.
