The recovery of flood-affected regions in Auckland will be mixed with a drop in revenue and traffic likely impacts, according to national industry body Retail NZ.
Retail NZ Ceo Greg Harford said he is hoping the impact will be short-lived, with normal levels returning soon to the New Zealand city.
“Retailers across Auckland have been impacted by the recent flooding in different ways,” Harford said. “Many have experienced flooding or leaks, or have had staff directly impacted.
“This has meant a clean-up of stores, supporting staff with leave or changes in shifts, and liaison with insurance and trades.
“Many retailers have been stepping up to support impacted communities by supplying food to food banks, undertaking workplace fundraisers or ensuring they are open to supply essential goods.”
Harford added that retailers should check that their teams and store is safe, and undertake appropriate steps for insurance claims.
“It is important to plan ahead by ensuring your business insurance is valid, fit for purpose and to have a disaster/recovery management plan in place.

Harford said Retail NZ is positive that Auckland retailers will bounce back quickly, with many already operating at full capacity and with the support of their local community.
