What is your current involvement with the fashion industry?
I am a fashion blogger who started my own blog, See Want Shop, to share styling tips, outfits, shopping finds & inspiration. I have been in the industry since I started the blog in 2012. Today I share my love for fashion across my blog and social media channels, including Instagram & Facebook.
When did you first start utilising social media from a business perspective? How did this come about?
I first started using social media in 2012, however, initially it was for personal purposes. As my following grew and when I decided to launch my blog, I began to use it from more of a business perspective. It was a very organic and gradual change, one that came about as my followers naturally grew as I shared my imagery. People were inspired by what I was wearing, and I realised it could grow into something more than just a hobby.
What do you credit for your growing and loyal following - how did you achieve cut through?
I truly believe I started using Instagram during a time when the market was very much less saturated. It was a lot easier to stand out and gain traction as not as many bloggers were using the platform. Since the beginning I have always stayed true and real to myself which I think has helped create a loyal audience. I’ve also put in a lot of effort to create beautiful and engaging content that I know will resonate with my audience.
What posts get the most engagement?
Summer vacations, puppy pictures and wedding planning.
What are your top three tips for fashion businesses on social media, when it comes to content?
- Come up with a clear and unique branding, then stick to it.
- Give something back to the audience – discounts or giveaways always do well for businesses and it’s something that audiences love to engage with.
- Engage with influencers who have a real audience, though don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Use at least three or four influencers who have the audience you are trying to reach so as to make sure your message resonates. Consumers are much more likely to take notice when they see something more than once.
What's your prediction for the future of social media and influencers?
That’s a tough one! I don't think anyone knows what will happen in this space. It's constantly changing and evolving, but in reality, we are in the hands of the companies that run the show!
