Raffles College and The Woolmark Company has partnered as part of an initiative to promote the next generation of Australian fashion design talent.
This week, wool-inspired emerging fashion designs will be unveiled at the Raffles Graduate Show in Sydney, thanks to the new education partnership.
The five-month partnership between Parramatta-based Raffles College and The Woolmark Company was aimed at second-year Fashion students.
Raffles hosted workshops on wool, as well as a design competition, in which the final product had to contain at least 80% of the textile.
It challenged students to immerse themselves in the creative potential of merino wool and produce a gown which reflected the theme of ‘displacement’.
The Woolmark Company MD Stuart McCullough said the partnership was key to the continued use of Merino wool within the industry.
"Education remains a critical focus of The Woolmark Company, which helps to guide and support the best new design students into their professional lives.
"Through partnerships such as these, we hope to not only provide inspiration, but also further develop the knowledge and understanding of Merino wool for those entering the textile and fashion trades."
Student designs will be on display at this year’s Raffles Graduate Show at The Commune in Waterloo on December 6.
