The National Retail Association (NRA) has announced the appointment of its new incoming CEO, Greg Griffith.

Griffith joins the organisation following past CEO positions, including currently at Family Business Australia & New Zealand, where he has held the position for six years.

Prior to that, Griffith was CEO of Dairy Farmers Milk Co-operative and Australian Dairy Farmers Cooperative for seven years.

He was also the CEO of Destination Melbourne Ltd between 2006 and 2008.

Speaking to members in an email yesterday, NRA Chair Tim Schaafsma said Griffith’s most recent experience at Family Business is expected to give him more understanding of SME retailers’ opportunities and challenges.

“However, he has also had hands-on experience in very large organisations, which gives him a range of different insights and an understanding of the entire spectrum of Australian business,” Schaafsma said.

“The common thread running through all of Greg’s previous roles is the community focus of each of those organisations. This is where the NRA Board believes Greg will deliver the greatest value for Australian retailers. At its heart, successful retail is about engaging with the community.

“The NRA is delighted that Greg will bring that community engagement experience to the retail sector. I’m sure he will build on the great achievements of our previous CEOs and will be a strong and knowledgeable advocate for retail businesses large and small.”

Schaafsma, on behalf of the board, acknowledged Lindsay Carroll, who has been Interim CEO for NRA following Dominique Lamb’s departure in September this year. Carroll will continue as deputy CEO and the NRA Legal Practice Director when Greg commences his new role early next year.
