Fashion designer Peter Morrissey has reclaimed the Morrissey brand, following a legal battle with the trademark's former owner M Webster Holdings.
Webster Holdings acquired the Morrissey trademark in 2006, closing its retail division in February 2009 but contuining to trade the upmarket Morrissey eyewear line.
It launched a legal bid against the designer earlier this year, claiming his recent collaborative venture with discount department store Big W would cause confusion between the two ventures.
The parties have reached an agreement which has returned all Morrisey trademarks to their original namesake. Morrissey said he was looking forward to growing the brand.
"I am thrilled and excited to own my own name again and what it means for me."
In addition to his Man & Woman by Peter Morrissey line for Big W, the designer is also interested in developing the Morrissey eyewear line in partnership with current licensing partner Sunshades.
He will also meet with product partners Milleni Leather Goods and Frost Merchandising. Man & Woman by Peter Morrissey will be on show at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival Sydney later this month.
