Lee Mathews returns to Sydney’s Northern Beaches

Australian fashion brand Lee Mathews has opened its third Sydney store in Avalon, the place where the brand originated. It marks the brand’s sixth Australian store, with two in Victoria and one in Queensland.

The beachside location houses the label's latest Resort collection and is designed by interior architect Emilie Delalande from Etic, with a space referencing natural elements through highlighted timbers, polished concretes and copper finishings.

It also includes a raw stone wall treatment with matching floating shelving, with oversized arched entryways to the changerooms.

Founder Lee Mathews said it is a welcome move after closing its Newport boutique in 2019, the brand’s first-ever studio since its launch in nearby Church Point in 2001.

“It feels right and refreshing to be back where the business began,” Mathews said. “Avalon has a diverse community of people who have supported the brand from the beginning, with many women who have grown up with us. We’re thrilled to now have their daughters shop with us as well.”

The move follows a pop-up transformation of its Melbourne store in August this year.
