H&M Australia has announced that it will close its Westfield Bondi Junction store following a global review of store operations.
As part of its review, H&M has assessed – and continues to assess – its store portfolio and rent negotiations to future proof its business, and has been unable to come to an agreement with Scentre Group on the Bondi Junction store.
Speaking on the decision, H&M Australia country manager Thomas Coellner said that despite the closure of the site, the business will continue to grow its store footprint.
"We are pleased that we have been able to relocate our team members to other store locations, where they can continue to grow their career within the company.
"We acknowledge that there are team members directly impacted as a result of this decision, and we will support and guide them through this transitionary period.
"Regardless of this closure, our physical stores remain incredibly important to us.
"H&M Australia is continuing to grow and strengthen our portfolio," he said.
Customers are being encouraged by the retailer to continue shopping in other Sydney locations, as well as online.
H&M entered the Australian market in 2014 and currently operates 37 H&M stores nationwide.
H&M launched its online store in October 2020.
The Westfield Bondi Junction H&M store will close on July 21 2021.
