23 years after launching Cohen et Sabine, founder Natalie Cohen has launched a new womenswear brand, Soleiluna.

The launch is the first foray for Cohen back into the fashion space since Cohen et Sabine entered liquidation in 2011.

Cohen has launched the new venture in partnership with Kate Bensimon as the marketing and sales director and James Ji as the director of sourcing, production and international marketing.

And sourcing and production are a top priority for the new brand, with Cohen launching Soleiluna with a more considered approach to the production of the garments.

"An important part of planning the collection was to move away from the traditional over production of fashion and overuse of creativity and move towards a concept that has more longevity in both style and fabrication," she said.

Designed in Australia and made in China, the team has partnered with certified Business and Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) workshops to ensure the garments are produced responsibly and sustainably in fair and ethically operated workplaces.

The label has also sourced skin-friendly, bio-degradable yarns.

The organic cotton used in the range is Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified, ensuring the authenticity of the fabric’s origins from yarn to cloth.

The Soleiluna collection is also Oeko-Tex ‘Made In Green’ approved and manufactured in certified dye houses and printers, ensuring that the cloth is free from harmful substances and is manufactured using sustainable processes under socially responsible working conditions.

As its name suggests - Soleil (sol-ay) is sun in French, and Luna (lu-na) is moon in Spanish - the brand's focus is on pieces that transition between day and night.

"Soleiluna’s first collection ‘The Whispered Kiss’ is timeless, it’s for languid days at home, or drifting through a holiday villa," Cohen said.

"Beauty that can be worn indoors or out, sheer or layered," she said.

As part of the inaugural collection, Cohen chose to honour her late friend, Annalise Braakensiek who passed away in 2018, by designing a silk slip dress that gives a nod to Annalise’s hippy-chic, lingerie inspired style.

Meanwhile, the remainder of the collection is built around billowing dresses, button downs, gathered up frills and loose-fitting pants.

Fabricated in silk and organic cotton, colours include black, white and an exclusive 'Vintage Blooms' print.

Soleiluna is available online and at selected stockists - including The Iconic - across Australia.

The Whispered Kiss collection is priced from $85 to $485.
