New Zealand-based umbrella company Blunt Umbrellas has launched a Pride umbrella, which will support charities Safe Space Alliance and Minus18.
The collaboration piece will raise funds for the organisations which work to create safe and inclusive spaces and opportunities for LGBTQIA+ people.
The Safe Space Alliance is made up of thousands of individuals, organisations, and businesses that support a similar vision of a world where the LGBTQIA+ community can freely express themselves without fear.
Meanwhile, Aussie charity Minus18 aims to improve the health and wellbeing of, and provide a safe environment for, same-sex attracted and gender diverse young people in Australia.
Safe Space Alliance founder and activist Shannon Novak said Blunt's umbrella celebrates and embraces the LGBTQIA+ community.
"Many in the LGBTQIA+ community feel unsafe.
"They are subjected to violence, bullying, and hate speech in physical and/or digital spaces.
"This continues to contribute to highly disproportionate rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide in the LGBTQIA+ community globally, marking a clear need for safe spaces that do not tolerate these behaviours.
"We are working hard to make a better world for the LGBTQIA+ community by acknowledging, supporting, and celebrating this community, in this case through a striking umbrella," he said.
According to Minus18, 66% of Australian LGBTQIA+ youth experience bullying or harassment based on their identity.
$5 from the sale of each Blunt Pride umbrella will go towards the charities, helping them to continue their work in the community.
The umbrella retails for $139 and is available on the Blunt Umbrellas website now.
