Executives have abandoned plans for two new stores in Perth and Joondalup due to the state's restricted trading hours. Last month the department store revealed it will open 15 new stores in Australia over the next three to four years, taking its total network of national stores to 80 by 2014.
Myer said it will continue to lobby for changes to trading hours in Western Australia. The state initially rejected Sunday and weeknight trading in a 2005 referendum, however a new proposition to introduce weeknight trading in Perth is currently before Parliament.
Myer has already confirmed three new stores as part of its retail rollout, including Tuggerah in New South Wales, Coomera on the Gold Coast and Woden in the ACT. The sites will be around 12,000 square metres in size are due to open towards the end of 2013.
